Happy new year
Et don't let the first SPAMs fool you: It already
has been observed that people are using SPAM to try and get your
money under the pretense of helping victims from South Asia. Just
go directly to the intitutions you already know.
"Nigerians hunting season" is open
Nigerian scams (or 419 scams) apparently flooded the
Internet. A web site (419eater.com)
simply tells you about how to have fun with these crooks and scammers
(and sometimes even get some money from their pockets). Funny, funny,
funnny. But if you want to join the game, always remember those
people are potentially dangerous thieves and never ever give up
any personal information.
But, at least, you can have fun reading the archives
at the web site.

Thunderbird
I think that many heard about this email software
that goes along with the Firefox
web browser. I took a moment to test it. Thunderbird is really easy
to install (if you already have Outlook Express, the installation
process will automagically transfer your configuration). It operates
well and easily. It not subject to as many viral attacks as Microsoft
products.
Furthermore, it contain a Bayesian filter that
should be pretty good at recognizing and filtrering SPAM (after
some learning).
I could not quantify its efficiency, but those who
tried it tell that it works even if separate server-side products
like K9 or PopFile may be better.
