Biggest Russian spammer assassinated
Vardan Kushnir, known for having sent SPAM to each and every Russian
citizen holding an email address, was found dead in his Moscow flat
on 24 July.
Death - apparently - was caused by repeated blows to
the head. It is not known yet whether his spamming activities and
possible relations with Russian mob played a role in the circumstances
of his premature death.

Microsoft AntiSpyware influenced by internal investments
I had announced (see lower) that Microsoft was about to buyout
Claria (one of the worst spyware producers). Two disturbing news:
- Price seems to be going up to 500M$ (where did they find such
an overblown value?)
- Worse than everything else: The Microsoft AntiSpyware beta software
now decided to downgrade its evaluation of the risk of some spywares
(including GAIN from Claria). Obviously, Microsoft's Trustworthy
computing is immediately going down the drain when their investments
may suffer from it.
We could think that Microsoft was truly improving now. We're back
to the bad old Microsoft. Thanks, but no thanks!

China against SPAM
Beijing just signed an international pact where the capital of
the second country (by the number of SPAMs) declares itself willing
to actively fight SPAM: The London Action Plan on Spam Enforcement
Collaboration.
This is the organisation/treaty behind more than 300 investigations
and the Spam Zombies operation last year. This is excellent
news.

Claria (formerly Gator) would be about to be grabbed by Microsoft
Hard to tell where this will lead, but it seems Microsoft is about
to cough 200M$ for a company who shone (darkly) under the name of
Gator (author of spywares and outrageously invasive advertisment).
