Bayesian
filtering of SPAMs
For a long time now, I have been advising individual users to protect
themselves with a software based on Bayesian statistical techniques.
My prefered PC-Windows solution for this still goes to K9
from keir.net.
But the program at the origin of K9, POPfile,
now has a specific Windows version. I am going to evaluate it in
order to decide if it should go to my
list of prefered downloads.
Some later news will be shown here.
15 months in jail for ex-AOL employee
He sold 92 million AOL email addresses to spammers. He will spend
the next 15 months in a cell.
More and more, spammers and their accomplices end in jail.
The weirdest telemarketing idea: A Deceased Do-Not-Contact list
I truly believe this is the ultimate weird thing from the Direct
Marketing Association. The list:
- designates people willing to receive no further calls from telemarketers
- designates only deceased people!
- uses a web site requiring a registration subject to a 1$ 'verification
fee' paid by credit card
- uses essentially no verification to avoid abuses
OECD: Emerging countries are badly hit by SPAM
The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development)
has recently reported that amongst the victims of SPAM, there are
the emerging countries where the Internet infrastructure is still
fragile. There, SPAM is seen as a major aggression against limited
and expensive ressources. Furthermore, SPAM is slowing down acceptation
of the Internet technology by people.
